WARNING!! What You Should Know About The Sasser Worm (please read)

Microsoft are warning us for a new virus. One of our computers at school already has it. As far I as know it's not very serious. This virus is called "Sasser" and it just knocks your Internet out. Not serious, but sad. I've heard that if you visit a site on the Internet, and someone who has Sasser are online at the same time you might get it. But if you have a firewall, you're most likely safe.

Here's a link at Microsoft.com how to protect you from Sassers. 'Cause remember, if we don't protect us and someone here get this, everyone on this board who has a PC with Windows XP won't be able to go online. Now, how fun is that?

Keep checking Microsoft.com for more updates.

Two easy and FREE ways to protect your machine;

Anti-Virus: AVG Free Anti-Virus
Firewall: Free Zone Alarm Firewall

absolutely free, if you want, you can get thier paid versions. No difference here as within the major companies. Sasser worm is a worm, meaning it will sneak its way into your machine. Not as an attachment, just by itself. Which means, your VS probably wont detect it. But your Firewall will block it from your machine. if you dont have either already, GET THEM. Dont wanna hear you bitching later on as to why your machine keep restarting or crashing on its own!

Thanks for the info. I haven't heard of that one yet. I have an auto-update virus protection program and a firewall, so I should be good to go.

Rule of thumb is you should ALWAYS have atleast 3GB of harddrive space free. It will make your com'fuser' run alot more efficient and it wont lag you up when Windows runs out of ram and requires the page files.

As for an answer to your question, I dont know. It will tell you when you go to download them. All I can tell you is that it will be A LOT less than if you went for the standard professional programs (i.e. McAfee, Norton)

Thanks! Even if I think most of us have those protections, it's good to "play safe"

Wow, I sure hope they teach us all these computer terms next year!!! I know what some of them are, but what the crap is 3bg??? Why are computers so complicated, with complicated words, and complicated codes, and everything else about them!

A com'fuser' is only as smart as the person in front of it.

3GB is 3 gigabytes (3,072 Megabytes ~~> 3,146,000 kilbytes ~~> 3,221,000,000 bytes ~~> 25,770,000,000 bits) . You need to have that much free in your harddrive (the physical device in which all information is saved and programs are stored.) to make sure that the computer runs properly. They are not complicated at all, at the most you just need to memorize a handfull of acronyms to get by on it. The majority of the problems that a lot of people encounter are repetative, making it easy to learn how to troubleshoot (fix) them. I strongly suggest that you, or anyone for that matter, take a computer course of fixing them. High schools offer them because they make great nets for "at risk" students. Community centers and libraries offer them like every summer. I know the library by my house does, its done so for several years now. I used to volunteer doing that back in high school.

If you think your school computer has it, search for "LSASS". If you find "LSASS" you should talk to your teacher, 'cause that's the worm!

Try to update your Anti-Virus program, and then check out www.Microsoft.com for more information

Lithium, don't try to scare people here. lsass.exe IS_NOT the worm on your system. lsass.exe is a standard Windows library (Local Security Authority Service)
