If you were to get a new desktop/laptop *cough* THINKpad *cough* today FOR FREE, which brand would you pick? And why?

Remember, for FREE! So price isn't a factor to balance your opinions.

(I hope all of those BIG BLUE smilies are telling you something! ) j/k - I want your sincere opinions.

Dell.... mine works great! (F*** IBM... they've not made real, entire computers for a few years now).... if not a Dell, then an HP/Compaq.

I have an HP Pavilion computer, but I voted Dell. If money isn't a problem then it's a Dell all the way.

ok, i deal alot with computers (thats how i make the moneys) and i do alot of IT and netowrking stuff. so here is what i say. take is serious.

note: everyone has personaly preferences, but alot of people agree withe m on this.

laptops: the best and will forever be the best are the IBM thinkpads. eveyone in my family has one and no one in the IT industry will say otherwise.

why are they good? compatability. even though they come packaged with windows, you can replace them with linux/unix BSD (my fav) and even macOS(gonna take some cmos work, but its cool! /uber-geek)

i have two thinkpads; 600x and 600e, all p3s. ones got FreeBSD the other has winXP

Sun Microsystems..... no comment. one word = Novell (if anyone remembers)

Im a Cisco man, mainly because im CCNA lol but i like em alot and i made a killing with them in the market a few years ago.

Dell, HP/Compaq, Gateway, eMachines, these are great for people that need something good and dont know anything.

HP makes great desktops, but eh laptops. Compaq makes "honda" desktops. meaning you can treat them like shit all you want cause they can be fixed and replaces easily. great for schools. Compaq on the other hand makes SUPER awsome mobile devices. I would highly recommend a Presario laptop over a Pavillion laptop. the iPaq are the BEST of the BEST in PDAs i got em and i loves them.

emachine are cool cause they are super dirt cheap and are very customizable. me likes em!

Gaming machines: Alienware, no doubt about it.

what do i own? iPaq 3850, Thinkpad 600e and 600x (gonna sell the 600e for a new A series) my main desktop (Mulletman brand ) and a Sony Vaio

if you need fancy flashy expensive crap, Vaios the way to go. btw my desktop caught fire the other day.... oops!

LMFAO! Well put, Mulletman...I have me a Dell [], but if I were to choose, cost aside, I think I'd get an IBM Thinkpad!

heh, my family is amazed by the things i can do with computers. when people ask me where i get my money i tell them; "i get it through human ignorance. i help those that dont know and i feed of it. they fuel me and i supply them with what they need till our next meeting. how else do you think i get my money, through technology :P"

I prefer desktops simply because I usually work at home and really have no need for a laptop. If I were to chose a laptop however, I would, as Mulletman said, go for the IBM thinkpad.

I selected Dell from the menu just because I have a Dell right now... P4 2.26GHz w/ the Dell THX certified sound system. I like it. Sure, building my own computer would be fun and probably cheaper, but I'm lazy

The machine I would like to get would be an Alienware system... Maybe the digital audio system:

else the high-end gaming one.

My Dell is a laptop, but more of a desktop replacement. I don't ever take it anywhere, but I got it because I don't have a lot of room in my apt. and I like that this takes up so little room.
