bands from your country you'ld recommend?
okay this thread exists to pimp bands that those outside that country may not know about. perhaps they are really big only in that market or perhaps they are a small indie outfit. for aussie acts i'ld recommend;
powderfinger the dissociatives (features daniel johns of silverchair) john butler trio wolfmother (70's style rock that sounds like zeppelin or deep purple, with only an EP out thus far). oh and there are a few acts from new zealand that are now aussies cause we say so! :D anything by finn brothers so finn brothers crowded house split enz....... shihad (pacifier) wonder if there are any american bands i don't know worth checking out. i'm sure there are probably canadian bands that have to be better than nickelback. |

Like Our Lady Peace? :D They're definitely better than Nickelback. |
Metal:
~Sepultura ~Soufly ~Angra ~Massacration Mainstream Rock: ~Pitty ~Charlie Brown Jr. Pop Rock: ~Jota Quest ~Skank ~Capital Inicial ~Tităs But I definately recommend Pitty, that girl can sing and it resembles Creed somehow. But for the guitar riffs, go with Charlie Brown Jr. Those guys are awesome but the singer sucks... |
Um... Alter Bridge
Black Label Society Metallica Pantera Damageplan (RIP DIME) Kenny Wayne Shepherd Dream Theater Alice In Chains Jerry Cantrell Guns N' Roses Velvet Revolver Soundgarden Audioslave hahah... i could keep goin... |
an amazin american band are
Four Star Mary they totally rock ave seen them live once n met them after coz my bro knows the band and i was like WOW! they where soo nice. :D antiproduct the levellers all about eve three days grace and many more amazin bands i cant think of right now. |

but those bands are well known....well at least most of them. bridge of clay i knew sepultura but i had no idea they came from brazil and ditto for soulfly. titan our lady peace are certainly better as our bands like big wreck, thornley and the tea party. |
Something For Kate, Jerk and Pete Murray. Im a big Jerk and SFK fan, and Pete is something to relax too. Apart from those 3 I cant really think of any other Australian bands I enjoy.
|
The Tea Party. I really like these guys, especially their older stuff. And they are WAY better than Nickelback :D. The new CD (Seven Circles) is Ok, but sounds more mainstream than their other stuff.
Floater. These guys are from Eugene, Oregon, and they kick ass. They've been around for 10 years or so, and their sound is everything from Floyd, to Zep to Tool to Primus, you name it. I'm not sure how to classify them. They are a trio and they have quite a cool sound to them. All of their albums sound different from each other. The lead singer is also the bass player, and he's got great pipes. They are my new favorite band. |
Quote:
ain't you from philly? and are not tea party from canada? correct me if i'm wrong but isn't there an international border between there? :p i'll have to check floater out and btw something for kate are a great aussie band. |

fair enough....i would hope most people here would have at least checked out the tea party considering the connection with stapp. i will check floater out and sfk is good songwriting although i can only listen to them for so long. songs like "electricity" and "monsters" are great listening and his voice is good for story-telling a bit like a tom waits or an eddie vedder in that respect. |

article 101.9 of the ANZUS treaty states and i quote "Any worthwhile artistic venture from the Commonwealth of New Zealand that spends a large amount of time in Australia, if accepted by the Australian public becomes an Australian act. Furthermore if there are Australians who the Aussies no longer want (ie.Damir Dokic) then they become citizens of the Commonwealth of New Zealand." lol :D another good band from new zealand is betchupuda which features liam finn (i guess you would know this but for the benefit of the others) and he is tim's son i'm fairly sure. they have supported pj in the past....... |
AC/DC is an aussie band
Canadian bands hu? Finger eleven The Tea party Nickle back Well theres actually a ton more, but im seriosuly way to lazy to look em all up so i just said the top 3 that came to mind. |
Quote:
yeah acdaca as they are called at times are aussie but i figured everyone would know them.....you've being thunderstruck! :) |
I still dont think Shihad has made its mark over here, popular over in NZ not so much here. Dont know why, they arent that bad. Not my kind of music but can appreciate it.
|
Quote:
yeah they've had a couple of singles do okay but they're not really that well known. they're better than crap like jet and the vines though...... |
Agree. Jet is probably the most overrated Australian band ever. Amazes me how their music sells, just shows the state of music over here.
|
Quote:
they're just recycling riffs from ac/dc, the stones and the like and the singer is not that great either. |
Australian music industry is fucked. What shits me most is when you see Sony not re-newing contracts with bands that have talent like Jerk, just to have more cash to sign Australian Idol rejects. How they can reward them over bands that have worked so hard to get up there amazes me.

Dude, your pure OldSckool, gotta love it, :lolsign: |

OH I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT!! 12 Stones... Yeah... one of the only Good bands out there right now OH!!! and Shadows Fall!! they rock too! |
You did'ent say Creed man?
|
Quote:
yeah and another band is you am i who were cut from their record company when all of these idols are getting signed and then forgotton 12 months later. its all short-term thinking........ |
Exactly, I doubt anyone will be buying any of the Australian Idols albums a few years down the track. Possibly Guy will be the only one with lasting appeal.
|
Quote:
he has a good voice but his music is annoying. sure he has some range but how bout singing lower every now and then. singing so high all the time gets to my nerves. what is with shannon noll having all that success? he is the jimmy barnes for the super bogan lol. |
Guy will be around purely because his records continue to sell quite well, mainly due to fact his target audience is teenage girls. As for Shannon, I doubt he will be remembered for much longer.

idol is a great marketing concept so long as the teenage girls (and to a lesser extent middle-aged women) who thought they were cute are still around and listening to them. as soon as those teenage girls start to reach adult hood then its all over. therefore the lifetime of these artists is very short..... |
Quote:
I second that. 12 Stones are an awesome band.:) |
Quote:
True. Depends though, Guy has to show he can expand his audience, maybe try different directions with his music. He has great voice and seems to very creative so I have no doubt he can do it. On a personal note I dislike his music very much but can respect what hes trying to do. |
Quote:
i do know he started in his local church and is still active there so i can respect that but his music does annoy me. |
I don't know how well-known these guys are, but I picked up an album today by the Black Keys, They are from Ohio, by the looks of the liner notes. It's called Rubber Factory and I would describe them as blues rock, kind of in the vein of Clapton. I heard a little Beatles influence and even some Kinks (they include a Kinks cover (!) ). Anyway, it's basically two guys doing everything and they kick some ass. I highly recommend them.
|
Quote:
yep i know of the black keys and they are not too bad at all. i'm not sure if the average creed fan would be into them but anyone with a bit of an open-mind could appreciate them. |
I haven't had time to look up any info on them yet, but I think they are pretty talented. Are they new or have they been around a while. From the liner notes, there's a credit to a friend who died in 2004 and he was 25, so I'm guessing they are around the same age? Dunno, though.
|
I don't really know that much about them but I know this isn't their first album. The indie press goes preddy insane about them......
|
Yeah, this one was in a sale bin at the Virgin Megastore in New York City. I spent the day in the city and way too long in the record store, hehehe.
|
Quote:
Lol there is a Virgin Megastore in Melbourne as well. Richard Branson came down with all his usual antics which was a bit of a laugh. How far away is Philly from New York? |
It's about 2 hours or so. I drive to the train station about 40 minutes away and then take a train in. It's way easier than driving. Driving is insane in NYC, lol. I love looking at all the imports and vinyl and what-not. It's fun just browsing. I can never get out of there without dropping some coin, though, hehee.

so you do that everyday? damn.....l.a roads are supposed to be worse but i wouldn't know from experience. i spend too much money on music but i do enjoy it. i know i would have spent more money on music this year than clothes lol. |
