Ethical Dilemas

Oh boy am I having a hard time with this today! I am taking care of a 39 year old man that is paralized from the waist down. The reason he is paralized is he was beat to a pulp in prison. The REASON he was beat like this is when he was 22 he brutally raped an elderly woman and then bit her nipples off!!!!!! The thought of it makes me sick, I don't even want to go in his room to take care of him. He looks at me all wierd and says stupid things to toy with my head. I just want to kick him while he is down (god forgive me) but how the hell can anyone do that to an old lady!!!! :mad1: :mad1: My point is this is one thing in nursing that is so hard for me, you have to look past this and take care of the patient but man i am having a REALLY hard time today!

So, does this mean disgusting Steve will get his just rewards for *Child Rape, and molestation* while in prision for the nest 9 years????

Mulletman 01-03-2004 05:21 PM

let him die.

its not your job to judge him, its not your job to forgiven him, you just do what you are assigned to do. his time will come and then he will whats coming to him. i'd hurry up that process, but thats me. if you really want to have fin, knock himto the ground and make him crawl.

GoodGodGirl23 01-03-2004 05:25 PM

KARMA

SCTMM's hubby 01-03-2004 05:48 PM

Jen he is getting his just rewards in prison. Prisioners do not like rapest's and molesters.

I understand how you feel I just want to rip his balls out thrugh his throat and shove them right up his ass.

Just treat him and street him .

Try not to let it ruin your spirit. You have a caring nature that is why you are a nurse.

Your best course of action is to take it out on him in here . We will not condemn you in here.

JenRN 01-03-2004 06:23 PM

I am standing outside his room right now, he keeps calling my name. "where is the little blonde girl" UGH!!!!!!! I went in there just a little bit ago and he keeps "bumping" into me. I think it is time for a male nurse for him. I just have a hard time looking past what he did, the visuals in my head are terrible. I know I have to "get over it' but the thought of hurting an old lady pisses me off!!!

Hang in there, Jen. I really don't know how you guys do it. It takes a strong person, and you are that person. Bless ya for all that you do!

SCTMM's hubby 01-03-2004 07:11 PM

Yea jen, its time for a male nurse. If it's getting to you then go. its not worth it.

P.S. (add a rectal exam with no lube to his chart j/k)

Mulletman 01-03-2004 10:08 PM

LOL Yes that thought crossed my devious mind as well! :D

Before I left tonight he grabbed my hand and told me all kinds of crazy stuff, kind of freaked me out but I just looked at him staight faced and said "Have a good night" I did by best to be proffessional I think this was one of the hardest cases ethically I had to deal with in awhile. I am mentally drained :(

Sheila63 01-03-2004 11:27 PM

I'm so sorry you had to deal with this man, Jen. I can't even imagine how difficult it must have been for you. I know I've told you this before but I feel like it's worth repeating. I have so much admiration and respect for the job you do. You have such a caring spirit and if you feel it's best to get a male nurse to take care of him, then that's what I'd do.

On a lighter note, I like Mullet's idea of the garden hose.
