Need feedback from True CREED fans!

Hello Creed fans!

I was hoping that you all could give me a little feedback. I have a friend thats in a band called Logan. Logan are from Scotland, United Kingdom...but they do not sound as such. I have been helping promote Logan as they are planning to come to the states in a few months, in hopes of breaking into the American music scene. Logan have a huge fanbase in the USA. Lots of their fans say they sound like Creed. Logan has gotten some radio air-play here in the states and a few dj's and Program Directors have also said they sound a lot like Creed. I am a huge Creed fan myself, but I don't think they sound like them and Logan doesn't think so either. And they aren't trying to. They have been HEAVILY influenced by Creed though. The lead guitarist of Logan (Mick/spytim) is the BIGGEST Creed fan in the UK. He emptied his bank account in 2002 to come see Creed in concert.

I was hoping that you could give them a listen. I'd like to know what you think!

PS! Any bandrags peeps here? I used to post there as xenagirl until the boards went down. I used to post here too, but it's been a while and I've forgotten my password/username. I see there have been some changes here also. Site looks AWESOME!!!

They sound pretty good. I like them. :)

Higher_Desire 02-08-2004 02:44 AM

Cool. I bookmarked the links and will check 'em out in a bit.

Cool! Thanks! Looking forward to hearing your comments...positive or negative. The band would honestly like to know what we Americans think of them.

ROCK ON!

Steve 02-10-2004 12:24 AM

The sound similar to Creed. Pretty cool.

>> edit : actually I think the singer sounds like Eddie Vedder!

Dogstar 02-10-2004 01:10 AM

LOL, I listened to the first song so far, and I thought the same thing, Steve. He had an Eddie V. sound kind of in the way he screamed. It was like a cross between him and Scott Stapp. I'm downloading the other songs, because I have a slow modem, so I'll post more later.

The song Lifeless living was OK, but it kind of dragged on and it didn't show much progression or change. The riff was a tad repetitive. I don't know how many people are in the band, but the song was ripe for a guitar solo of some sort. The singer has a good strong voice, though.

Said Eyes 02-10-2004 03:52 AM

Wow. I listened to Like A Rain and I love the guitar tone for the intro, sounds so familiar! ;)

farmgirl 02-10-2004 07:51 AM

No offense to the music, I've heard from friends it was good but I have dial-up and it takes too long to download. But, Mick/spytim is a member of another Creed message board and he has posted some pretty speculative & negative comments about a member of Creed there as well as on his own website. Sorry, but I have no respect for a musician who would do that to a fellow musician.

Just my thoughts.

Karen 02-10-2004 06:21 PM

Cheers Steve! You know, a lot of people have compared them to Pearl Jam also. And even Metallica and Sevendust. The majority say Creed and Pearl Jam.

And I agree dogstar. The singer, Kenny Collins, has very strong vocals. That dude can roar! I love that kind of music.

Farmgirl, I don't want to sway your opinion and comment on anything that I don't know firsthand. It's probably the pit and Scott Stapp that you speak of. I don't go there, so I don't know what's been said. I do know that Mick loves Creed, and I don't think he would slag Creed's music or it's profession. I'll stop with that said. I don't want to speak for Mick. Maybe he can stop by and shed some light on that. I do appreciate your honesty. :)

Thank you all for your feedback and comments! :)

cjme 02-10-2004 07:05 PM

I have to agree with farmgirl here. And even though I like the music, Mick's comments about a fellow musician, may it be Stapp or not, has tainted the band's name already. Kinda sucks when one band member's behavior ruins it for the rest of it, doesn't it?

Dogstar 02-10-2004 07:36 PM

Karen, the intro to Runaway made me think of Pearl Jam's I Am Mine. Very similar. The vocals definitely were like Scott's, though. I think they have potential, but I think they need to find their own sound because they do sound a little too much like Creed and PJ, but that's just my opinion :D. With that said, many bands sound like their influences and work through that and do find their own sound. Thanks for giving us a listen.

Karen 02-10-2004 08:48 PM

I hear what you're saying Dogstar! One thing comes to mind though. I recall, back in the day, when people used to say that CREED sounded like Pearl Jam. I'm glad that CREED pressed on. :)

I honestly don't think that they are trying to sound like Creed or Pearl Jam. Mick has been heavily influenced by Creed, and Kenny by Pearl Jam. That's the style of music that they love and, naturally, that's the style that they would want to play....I would imagine. I think they have the same style, but I don't think that they sound the same. Kenny was born with those pipes. Can't hold it against him because he sounds like someone else (not to say that you were). ;) I do think that if I were in a band and were being compared to the likes of Creed and Pearl Jam...I would be stoked...and honored!!! :D ;)

Thanks for taking the time to give them a listen dogstar! Thank you all! :)

cjme! Thanks for your input. I am glad that you can see past Mick's views and be able to like their music. Thanks for keeping an open mind! I do hope that Mick will stop by and shed some light on his views.

cjme 02-10-2004 08:56 PM

Hi Karen, all I wanted to point out to him is how easily someone can mess up and be judged. I'm sure he never thought his words could reflect bad on his band, but it did to some. Other than that, the music sounds great.

Absolutely, that's what I kind of said in my earlier post, that even though they sound like their influences, many bands progress to their own sound. I think these guys could, too. I wish them well. Keep us posted on them when you can.

Jooji_2 02-10-2004 09:11 PM

I agree with Farmgirl....

I've read the same negative comments and even took mick/spytim to task for it. My philosophy is that fellow musicians respect other fellow musicians. Lots of bands may dislike their competition or other bands....but they have enough class to get along, put their product out there and deal with the success for failure that they receive.

I understand that Mick is disappointed by one mistake made by one member, on one night. But as I've told him myself.....he lost one potential fan when he made the statements he made.....so now maybe he can understand how one stupid mistake can go horribly wrong and have a negative affect on how one is perceived by their public. Sorry, but this American is not a Logan fan.

Karen 02-10-2004 09:29 PM

I understand what you're saying Dogstar. With Logan being 9 months old and just getting things off the ground...who knows what's to come. I think they have plenty of talent to do great things. Thanks for the input and the well wishes. I will keep you posted on their journey that awaits them. Cheers! :)

Jooji_2! I can respect your opinion. It is your's and you are entitled to it! I just do not wish to put words in Mick's mouth and speak for him because I don't know what has been posted at the pit. :)

RMadd 02-10-2004 09:33 PM

They sound pretty good. Never heard of them, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks BearFan! :)

You know, they don't even have their best song posted at the site! (That's my personal fav though! ;) ) They are finishing up in the studio with it now. It's called STAND UP! It ROCKS! Hope you get a chance to hear that one some day!

Then maybe you might want to point out to him that what he says on public message boards can very well come back to bite him in the butt. He did plenty of speaking at the time.....mostly dismissing my opinion because I'm a female.....that didn't sit too well with me either. So maybe he might want to tone down the Stapp bashing.

Karen 02-10-2004 09:49 PM

I will definately let him know girl! :)

Dogstar 02-10-2004 10:13 PM

Ya know, I don't want to get into a pissing contest or whatever because you all seem like nice people, but could those of you who belong to other boards keep the crap that goes on there off this board? We've had enough of our own crap here lately. Thanks.

I thought I found Stand Up among the demos. Is the studio version different?

Karen 02-10-2004 11:41 PM

Hmmmm....seems that Mick snuck that track on the site right under my nose. It hadn't been on there until recently. I don't know if the studio version is different. Haven't heard it yet. They are just finishing up with that track. A couple of their demo's have changed a bit here and there. One of their tracks, My Last Goodbye, is a lot different. They added strings and piano. It's an amazing song. Mick posted a snippet of that track a few months ago. Don't think that one's still there though.

Thanks for the feedback DangerousDan85.

Okay...question for the board.

Do you all feel that the resemblance in their voices is a good or bad thing....for Logan?

Could you get into a band that has such a similar sound?

Dogstar 02-11-2004 05:26 PM

I think it could be bad unless there is something else to distinguish their sound, either a writing style or a playing style, something to set them apart from the rest. That's what Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden did for me. I was blown away by different things in each band. For instance, with PJ, it was Eddie's voice and lyrics; with Alice it was everything, Layne's voice, the amazing haunting harmonies and driving guitars, and lyrics; for Soundgarden it was again lyrics and Chris Cornell's outstanding voice. Cornell was compared a lot to Robert Plant at first, but that band found its own sound and had success. For me, Logan sound a bit too much Creed and Pearl Jam, even though I think the singer is really good and they have potential, I'm not sure I'd be compelled to go out and buy the CD because what I have heard did not bowl me over. Not that it's bad, but it just didn't really grab me. I'm not a musician, so it's hard for me to put it into specifics.

Also, sometimes a band's live performance will do the trick. If I really dig them live, I might be more inclined to give their CD a shot.

PaulMcCoygirl 02-12-2004 10:14 PM

I agree with Dogstar. If I really want to get into the bands music, then they are going to have to prove that they are different than the people/band they sound like. Otherwise than that, they sound like a good band.

Karen 02-12-2004 10:15 PM

Well Dogstar, someone out there agree's with you (In reference to your comparison of "I am Mine"). This review of "Like a Rain" was from a member at Gragarebands.com.

This song has a kind of a "modern day Pearl Jam" feel to it. The beginning has the same dark but dignified mood as does "I am mine". And this doesn't mean that it's copied, no no. It just has the feel to it. I liked this song very much! The voice of the singer is just right for this type of music, and I like the melodies the guitars play with. Really, one word: great!

You may not be a musician and you say that it's hard for you to put into specifics, but I do understand what you are saying. I think you've done a fine job of explaining your thoughts. :) If I may ask, how many tracks did you listen to at Logan-net? Which tracks did you listen to?

Dogstar 02-12-2004 10:23 PM

I listened to the Lifeless Living and the three demos, Like a Rain, Stand Up, and I think it was Pull Away or something? I can't remember the exact title.

And thanks for the kind words, LOL.

Karen 02-12-2004 10:30 PM

So you listened to all of them! Cool! Thanks!

Hey...just telling you as I see things! LOL! Perhaps you should be a musician! ;)

Dogstar 02-12-2004 10:37 PM

Hahahah, I wish...I am going to take guitar lessons soon, though...as soon as I buy me an acoustic! Yeah, I had to download them all because I have dial-up...One of these days, I will get a cable modem or something faster [:D]...

Karen 02-12-2004 10:42 PM

GOD! I'd love to learn how to play guitar! I met Mark T. at the PRS meet and greets in DC and Richmond last year. I was sooo tempted to buy that PRS Tremonti guitar. That baby is beautiful! :smileyban

Yeah...I'm on dial-up too! IT SUCKS!!!

Dogstar 02-12-2004 10:47 PM

Hahah, I bet. I would have been, too!

Karen 02-12-2004 10:56 PM

Hey...forgot to mention! Keep us posted on your guitar lessons! Who knows...maybe if it's easy enough to pick up I'll give it a try myself!

And I'll keep you posted on Logan. I am quite sure they'll come out with something that will grab ya! ;)

Dogstar 02-12-2004 11:03 PM

Cool. Will do. Do keep me posted on Logan. I'm always up for new music!

Mark downed a Red Bull and one of the fans asked if he could have the empty can with it signed and, sure enough, Mark signed it and gave it to him. LOL! I've got some pic's, but I don't know how to post them. :(

Lucky dog!

Logan were recently contacted by one of Sony Records' top A&R men. The man in question was A&R for one of the biggest selling albums ever; santana's 'supernatural' and also A&R'd for modern rock bands 'revis' and 'adema'.

He wishes to meet with logan and has arranged for the band to showcase for him and his label at a top studio in washington DC... Next week!

The band fly out to washington DC next saturday (13th) and are very excited!

Logan should be touching down in the states within a few hours. I've got a very very very good feeling about this!
