even though my husband thinks i'm crazy, I will not touch beef with a ten foot fork right now, if ever again. Nor my kids. I read a book online about Mad Cow by the guy who was on Oprah when she was sued for what she said about beef, it's really interesting. He wrote this before the mad cow showed up here in America. You have to have adobe reader to read it.....

I have mixed feelings about it all. I for one will still eat a great steak anytime. But I think that it is a rare thing that someone gets REALLY sick often from this. Your chances are slim to none. PLUS if you had any idea what was shot into chickens to make them fat and juicy you would crap!!! And we eat the stuff that is injected in them! I try to get antibiotic and horomone free meats, they are more expensive but being a nurse I know too much about the consequenses. There has been a BIG outbreak of rare cancers of the stomach etc... and they are linking it to processed chickens! I also stay FAR FAR away from artificial sweetners even splenda. You would really freak if I told you some of that stuff, and I have seen it with my own eyes!!!!

I think if tofu didn't look like pure crap I could go vegetarian  :)

Xterminator27 01-19-2004 09:48 PM

Jen, tell me the stuff about artificial sweetners! I'm curious, I don't use them much, only in ice tea in the summer. The rare beef thing your thinking of e-coli right? It's hamburger that you can get that from if it's rare inside. E-coli can't penatrate steak, only survive on the surface, hamburger is ground up so it can be dangerous. In my mind I know that mad cow most likely won't happen, but it still freaks me out. Did you know it is a slow virus like HIV and takes 10 to 12 years to show symptoms and there is no test for it to see if you have it. That's freaky to me!
