I guess because he presents himself as a Christian, he is held up to a higher standard than the average Rockstar. I think if he were perceived as the typical Rockstar, rather than the holier than thou Rockstar, people wouldn't be that pissed off with his recent actions. Afterall, this kind of ridiculous, stupid behavior is common in Rock&Roll. But I guess with the sometimes blantant spirituality in his lyrics, combined with his Christian beliefs(which he has made known), people don't expect him to do this stuff, because, really, would you expect a fellow Christian to act this way? No, because it is considered "sinful" behavior, which it is. So when he does do this stupid crap, people are quite angry about it and he loses quite a few fans because of being held up to such a high standard. Apparently not everyone is willing to look past the stupid behavior and actually give the MUSIC a chance to speak for itself. I don't like Stapp because of his personality or beliefs, I like him because of his music.

There's a quote I'd like to use, which comes from a recent article on(surprise!) christianmusicnews.net:

That quote, right there as far as I'm concerned, says it all.

I like the way u put that in words. I feel the same way. I like his music, yes, but the person he has become is alittle much for me. This is how I see it, if u come into the entertainment business talking about how much ur this and how much ur that, ur fans get used to U being that way. Then when he does a 360 and does something that we never thought that he would, we're shocked. Like I said I'm a fan of stapp he's music is good, but the way he acts right now, I kinda feel bad 4 the guy in a way. But he has to do something about it, b4 he's fans start leaving one by one.

I agree. If he has a substance abuse problem, he needs to get help and do so fast. Not for the sake of his music but instead for the sake of his son. That's what concerns me the most at this point. We don't have to deal with Scott on a day-to-day basis, but his son DOES. I can only imagine what his son must have to deal with if his drunkeness is a daily occurance. I just pray he gets this problem under control before he gets married, so that his son can have some stability.

I don't think marriage is the best bet for him right now, to tell u the truth. He has so much problems he has to deal with b4 he can make that much of an important decision like that. Stapp needs to find himself first.

Titan, I hear you on what you're saying about PBF wanting to keep things positive, but what bugs me - and I don't post there, but I have read - is that they refuse to see or really acknowledge any real faults in the man. They excuse a lot of his behavior or come up with what I consider some implausible explanations for it. Plus, they won't accept any debate of any kind if it varies from the he's-the-misunderstood-rock-star/christan/person.

titan9 12-08-2005 12:09 PM

Have you read any of the messages there lately? I'd venture to say that all of the PBF'ers are admitting that he has faults and has made mistakes. Like I said, even the Admin over there has said that he needs to apologize to the SpikeTV people. I know what you are saying...in the past, it was very easy to draw the conclusion that they saw no faults in him. But after reading all of the messages lately, it's pretty apparent that they do see faults in him. Rather than abandoning him as some have done, they've chosen to forgive and pray for him.

They have accepted criticism as of late....so long as it is done in a respectful manner. Take Stappishot for instance. She's a member there and has posted what she thinks of the situation. They've respected her opinion and have not censored it(as far as I can tell). But when a person comes there to blatantly stir the pot and bash Stapp in a disrespectful manner, they'll get banned or at least warned. PBF doesn't ban everyone who has a differing opinion of Stapp....they only ban those who come there to bash him.

When i reply to anything, I make it my responsibility to make it as respectful AS possible (that's how I see it anyway :D ) . I try not to bash in a hurtful way, but I'm also trying to get my point across.

titan9 12-08-2005 12:17 PM

That's a good practice. Like I said, if you disagree in a respectful way, they won't ban or warn you.

Yeah, that's just so pathetic....really knowing what happened in Chicago.
He would have more credibility and respect if he was more coherence

You know Titan, I enjoy your posts and also respect your polite way of voicing your opinion here, but I cant agree with that; PBF is still a great site about Stapp , but yes, they just ignore people who have opinions different from Stapp, cause they cant accept that, I saw a member who was ignored on board cuz he defended AB in a joke ...so they CAN joke about Alter Bridge but you CANt do the same when it refers to Stapp...

Higher_Desire 12-08-2005 10:32 PM

i just think it's funny that anyone actually cares who started it, instead of just that it happend. anyway, my two cents is that stapp seems to have a few people who saw it and say that 311 started it, yet 311 has no one who was there defending them... and about the reference of correlation with the chicago show, plenty of creed's people were upset about that and didn't back stapp then. stapp was alone then (in his defense), and now he's not.

H-D :xmas:

:wtf:

NM...i reread your post several more times and I finally understood it. I'm seriously not trying to sound offensive at all here but punctuation is a bit helpful.

I think the story's somewhere in the middle (possibly leaning a bit more towards 311's side) of these statements. I find it incredibly odd that he chose to release a statement a WEEK after the incident had happened. Also wondering why he waitied until after that fiasco on Casino Cinema to release a statement. Wouldn't it make more sense to release a statement defending yourself before something else airs that puts you in a really bad light publicly?

geletmote 12-08-2005 11:17 PM

Ill always be a fan because of his voice , his public life will not influence me in disliking him.. He's just a cool bastard, the hair, the faces he pulls on live shows the rare voice, I dont care what he does outside in the public..

Vliegs 12-08-2005 11:21 PM

It sounds like lately from the performances I've heard on the radio tour that his voice is more raw than rare. There are quite a few other baritones with his range as well so it's not that uncommon. Eddie Vedder being the most predominant since Scott does sound a lot like him. Donnie Hamby from Doubledrive has a similar range as well, and the lead singer of Candlebox, can't remember his name at the moment.
