Tornado in NZ? I didn't realise that Torandos were common there. I haven't heard from her today but hope everything is alright. Perhaps people could also think of Northern Australia (east coast) which is experiencing a tropical cyclone.

whitebird 03-11-2005 05:43 AM

I hadn't heard about the tornado in NZ, but I had heard about the cyclone.
I hope that everyone in those two countries, stays safe from harm.

Nature can be such a powerful force, I for one respect it, and try to avoid the dangererous side, but sometimes we find ourselves right in the middle.

Please stay safe.

Aww guys! I'm okay. :) The tornado was pretty devestating, alot of people have lost their homes, but it was in the South Island, no way near me. :) Pretty awful though, thanks for your kind thoughts. :D

Of course because you take out Australia and what is there in this part of the world? nothing at all...... ;) lol jk Oh and about that cyclone it was a category 5 off the coast (the strongest) but by the time it got to land it was downgraded to a 1 (the weakest obviously). seriously glad it wasen't near you or the bigger cities in NZ up on the north island.

As far as I know, miraculously no one died, if it had of gone on for any longer I think people would have been in great danger though. No, tornadoes are very rare here, I mean we get alot of wind storms, but not to the extent where there is alot of damage done.

If you look here: http://sites.onlinemac.com/kincom/Ne...and%20Map.JPEG See where Christchurch is, well look diagonally accross from that and you will see Greymouth, that's where the Tornado was. I'm not sure exactly how far away that is from Christchurch, but there wouldn't have been damage there.

Yeah it's very upsetting when you see that happening from a natural disaster, these people couldn't recover any of their belongings. But the response from the rest of NZ has been great, the community have raised alot of money for the people that have lost their homes, which is cool :)

True although luckily it was heading towards a fairy small town up right near the top east corner of the continent.

True if some lunatic blows some people away its obvious who is to blame. When its a natural disaster or "act of God" who is there to blame?
