Open Your Eyes - LYRICS...

So... what do you think of OYE lyrics? How do you interpret the song and its meaning? And what do you think it's about?

Quote:

Looking back I clearly see
What it is that's killing me
Through the eyes of one I know
I see a vision once let go
I had it all

Constantly it burdens me
Hard to trust and can't believe
Lost the faith and lost the love
When the day is done

Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one
On and on we stand alone
Until our day has come
When they open their eyes
And realize we are one

I love the way I feel today
But how I know the sun will fade
Darker days seem to be
What will always live in me
But still I run

It's hard to walk this path alone
Hard to know which way to go
Will I ever save this day
Will it ever change

Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one
On and on we stand alone
Until our day has come
Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one

Still today we carry on
I know our day will come
When they open their eyes
And realize we are one

Oooooooh....

(guitar solo)

Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one
(its hard to walk this path alone
hard to know which way to go)
Will they open their eyes
and realize we are one
(lost the faith and lost the love
when the day is done)

Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one

I think its generic lame nonsense is what I think.

How many times do I have to have someone yell at me that we are all "one"? GET OVER YOURSELVES.

"Hard to walk this path alone/hard to know which way to go"? Utter crap, and any decent lyricist can tell you so. it is boring unoriginal and just downright crappy. And most of the lines are like that. Seriously, the best part is:

"Ooooooh". No joke.

yeah, i've kinda stopped listening to OYE after doing so quite often the first few to 6 months after it came out. but, with regard to the comment on the main lyric in question here, i've actually felt that Mark's lyrical style is very reflective of Stapp and the 10 years Tru spent with Scotty. Listening to M4, their lyrics, all penned by Mr. Kennedy, have a bit of a more blunt & straightforward tone. but like Stapp, Tru likes to use metaphor, alliteration, and all that funky English crap that artsy fartsy people use lol

Yeh totally agree with you, and the people that say Myles is better than Stap have to be kidding themeselves, thats ridiculous . Myles is too original, scott is very rare...

Very cheesy lyrics on that song, no creativity

i see that as mark looking back and realizing that stapp fucked everything up by being such a dick and the result, creed disbanding.

I think it's pretty much about what Mark has said it is about. I really think he is looking back at his Creed past in the first verse. Since he wasn't at all happy toward the end of Creed. Then I think the whole; "Getting through hard times, by help given from your close ones" thing kicks in.

To me, it's the only song that always makes me happy, no matter when I listen to it. I remember when my girlfriend told me she was very unsure about our relationship, and it was a total shock for me to hear. (This was when we had been together for like, 3 months...) I went home, sat down and listened to some Broken Wings. Then I decided to not get all depressed, so I played OYE. And it worked, it made me happy again. And luckly, me and my girlfriend are still together now, after 9 months! :D

man thats kool for u!!! the power of music is so amazing...
and i think it was more about war and things like that
saying how if we stand together as 1 we will carry on but division is a part of humanity...
i mean lets face it, we all come across ppl we dont really like but u know shyt happens and u gotta get on with it
i think that OYE as all songs can be interpreted in many many ways and is quite a subjective question
and as it goes we are all entitled to our own opinions and that should be respected if anything else

Although very many Americans died in Iraq, the people of Iraq suffered about 10 000 times more than American did.

Bridge of Clay 10-19-2005 08:48 AM

Seb... are you replying it to someone? or is it just non-sense??? maybe the wrong thread ???

The Lithium 10-19-2005 08:51 AM

Alright, I didn't mean to start a fight, or anything, but StappsSaviour said it could be partly about the war, and I just think that well... Nevermind... Maybe I'm gonna get a lot of crap about this, but USA chose to bomb Iraq. Iraq didn't have much of a chose. I understand the thought that: "Right now we are going through hard times, but if we staind united as one, we can make it". But if anyone should say that it'd be Iraq, I think.

But nevermind, it was stupid to bring up anyway, sorry...

Looking back I clearly see
What it is that's killing me
Through the eyes of one I know
I see a vision once let go
I had it all
[This part must be about creed and Stapp f'cking it up for them]

Constantly it burdens me
Hard to trust and can't believe
Lost the faith and lost the love
When the day is done
[This is just about how Mark lost his faith for Stapp and how he can't trust him anymore]

Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one
On and on we stand alone
Until our day has come
When they open their eyes
And realize we are one
[This I'm not so shure about, who's one with him?]

I love the way I feel today
But how I know the sun will fade
Darker days seem to be
What will always live in me
But still I run
[These lines are just telling us that for some parts it was fun and bright in Creed (Love the way you fell today), but the next line just tells us that he knew it wouldn't last like that, the las line says to us that he still ran with Creed even though he didn't want to]

It's hard to walk this path alone
Hard to know which way to go
Will I ever save this day
Will it ever change
[These lines tells us that it was hard walking with Creed, that he fellt alone and didn't know what to do realy, he might have woundered if he could save what was left betwen him and Scott (I THINK) and if Scott would ever change]

Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one
On and on we stand alone
Until our day has come
Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one
[Still no qlue]
Still today we carry on
I know our day will come
When they open their eyes
And realize we are one

Oooooooh....

(guitar solo)

Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one
(its hard to walk this path alone
hard to know which way to go)
Will they open their eyes
and realize we are one
(lost the faith and lost the love
when the day is done)

Will they open their eyes
And realize we are one

Bridge of Clay 10-23-2005 12:31 AM

yeah, Roffe! That's what I was thinking too.

Maybe "realize we're one" means that the 4 of them are like one, just one band. Nobody is better than the other and to Stapp open his eyes and realize he's wrong, that Mark would be willing to forgive him ?

Humanity in general. When will the human race get its sh*t together and leave the path of self distruction. Just my humble opinion. :boxedin:

RoffeDH 10-23-2005 01:53 PM

Just as good as any ;)

Bridge of Clay: You might be right ;)
