View Full Version : Is yoga evil?

Torn Signs

My master of Tae Kwon Do brought this up. He says clearing your mind like that in yoga is letting it being taken by Satan...so it is evil. I'm rather confused on how this matter should be thought about. Your pros and cons would be of great interest...especially if you use some beliefs lol.

Peace out. ;):bounce:

Wow, that's a first. I'd never heard that before. Just because you clear your mind, doesn't mean Satan has to enter it...It could just as easily be filled with good spiritual thoughts. I tend to think of yoga as a sort of cleansing, getting rid of the impurities in your body and your mind. It's a good release.

well let me start a sermon to anwser your question torn a we all know that god speaks to us in diffrent ways and so does the evil one what he would use against me he would not use against some one else he knows your weakness and he knows when to busta move so clearing your mind can be an open target for the evil one to place thoughts there if your mind is not upon christ now yoga could be deadley to someone whos seeking truth from god and is not strong enough yet to desern he can place thoughts in your mind and lies if you need clarity sometimes the best way to do it is ask god for clarity and understanding and take it one day at time and anotherway to clear the mind is to pray for others and when i need clarity i take hot baths AND LISTEN TO MUSIC NOT WHAT I NORMALY LISTEN TO BUT THE OLDER CHURCH HYMS FOR SIMPLER TIMES IT GETS ME BACK ON TRACK........PEACE

Also, isn't Tae Kwon Do like a Zen art? And isn't Zen like Yoga? Maybe you should ask him about that. If you find peace in the zone with the focus of TKD, Yoga is the same thing. :confused:

When I don't feel like going to the gym I make up my mind that exercise equipment is evil.
:devil:=Crosstrainer
:devil:= Treadmill
:devil:= Recumbent Bike
:devil:= Step Class
:devil:= Weight machines

See, it's really easy to do!

I was thinking the same thing Amy! So I guess that makes Tai Chi evil too:rolleyes: So what does you instructor of Tae Kwon Do tell you while you are working out? Does he tell you that you are being overcome by Budda? Give me a break. My husband has taught martial arts for over 15 years does he think that, ummmmmm NO!

For me, yoga and also meditating help to center or ground me which only helps me feel more spiritual and closer to the earth and God.

Yeah, whatever.

I think what your instructor meant was something along the lines of, the exercising part of yoga is fine, beneficial and all that, but the meditation part, if you are a true master at it and can manage to completely and totally empty your head (and not many can do this completely), then yes it leaves the way open for demons to enter. It doesn't happen very often, and not as much as it used to, but it does happen.

Well Yoga was started by the new agers. So you should really watch out what the yoga teacher is going on about, cause any new age practice should be avoided since their philosophy is all through that kind of stuff.

(no offence to new agers just my advice to a fellow Christian)

In response to this thread question, my answer would be, "That's a big negative - as far as I can see and feel it!! " Yoga means "union" - with the divine. This science/discipline/practice...whatever you want to call it (BUT NOT EVIL) is over, 5,000 years and the classical practices have to do with preparation for meditation. Sure, yoga has recently become a fad that focuses primarily on the physical aspect and it's breadth and true purpose has been diluted. With roots from traditions that practice a 'direct path to the Absoulute' it is no wonder that some people have questions and fear.
My final comment is...TRY IT FROM A REPUTABLE TEACHER...and see if it doesn't help you feel more at peace, loving and closer to your God!

By Biblical Standards Evils Spirits, Demons, and Satan cannot possess the mind of a "saved" person. They can oppress but never possess. And for that matter evil thought can enter into your head whether it is "empty" or not. I am a mother of 3 kids one of which is ADHD and Bipolar and I am Biplar and Borderline Personality Disorder as well. Let me tell you that I have tons of things going through my head at any given moment and I have thought of some pretty evil things. And please give me a break when are people going to stop blaming "the devil" for every bad thought. Take some responsibility for your own thoughts people! Geez! :rolleyes:

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word 'yuj' meaning to yoke, join or unite.

It is a philosophical science of self - realization and transformation, independently guiding one into recognizing his fullest potential and purpose in life (Essence of spirit).

The origin of yoga pre-dates Indian Hindu and Buddhist religions and in that context, Yoga is not a religion.

In Yogic philosophy we have three bodies; the Physical, Subtle (astral) and Causal (spirit), which is the path to the integration of self or "self realization".

By acknowledging and integrating the individual aspects of ourselves from the physical, mental and emotional we can achieve a contented, balanced and above all useful life.

set your mind on the things of God and you will think about the things of God, empty your mind...well idleness is the devils playground.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep one's mind upon "the Lord" or anyother God for that matter all of the time. We are imperfect humans for crying out loud. I don't know about you but I have a life to lead. All around me there is hussle and bussle of everyday life. If yoga/meditation up my God helps me to clear my mind of the junk that's in there WHAT IS SO "SINFUL" ABOUT THAT?! Geez! I just don't believe you people know what yoga really is.

Hi there...havent been here 4 a while...

To the Christians: Please, before all these eastern etc pursuits, pursue peace through the word of God. What about Philippians 4 for jsut one example:

v6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; v7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Doesnt say anything about emptying them.

Also, is yoga something to do with harnessing sexual energy? cos I was reading stuff on Alchemy and the information on yoga that i read sounded really strange. Might try and find it so I can show you. Basically, every movement means something?

creedsister

your right only through,,jesus and prayer and unity,,can we obtain that peace that passes all understanding,,and as far as yoga,,i think its just another move of something the world wants to use to take are minds of god if ya know what i mean,,i find peace through music and,,prayer and for clarity,,i hit the wine from time to time,,,peace

I respect other s practices and it's simple to tell those that are open and loving (irregardless of their doing postures) from those that are fearful ...and intolerant

Just to Creedsister, I agree, but non- Christians wont, cos yoga is an important part of their journey. My concern is that Christians reading this will think it's okay to do that stuff, and really for us, its not a good idea, or necessary if U know Christ.

creedsister
12-15-2003, 02:03 AM
Your right once you have found christ you look no were else but the point i was trying to make,,When God calls you and he wants to get through to you he can use whatever he wants and by him in first Corithians all things consist whether they be domians and powers so if someone is seeking peace through a ritual and if god is ready for theme he can move inn,,,and note this he is the god of all flesh and he works everything perfect acording to his will nothing happens good or bad that he dose not want to happen mayby there is a yoga person of today that tommorow will become a prophet or a teacher,,and will have a testimone to give another,,im very deep so i hope you understand were i coming from but as partakers of christ we steadfast in the lord come what may we take the ups with the downs and the highs with the lows,,I would Tell Anybody Sincirr THAT JESUS IS THE TRUTH THE WAY AND THE LIGHT AND KNOW MAN CAN REACH THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH HIM,,,,Peace
