View Full Version : Faith Is Healthy In Today's World

All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives there lies a mystery. - George Orwell

For the most part, we receive too much information. We're bombarded with print, sound, images. Many of us cultivate a healthy skepticism: we consider the source. What does this person, this agency, this network, this advertiser, or this elected official stand to gain from telling me this information?

But we cannot doubt everything. Humans need to believe in something, even something wildly implausible on the face of it. Thus, cults and causes abound. In this age of widespread corruption and cynicism, faith also is widespread.

Faith is healthy; it is an affirmation of human worth and continuity. Fortunate are those of us who have both strong faith and good judgment. Belief in the essential goodness of our fellows and in the basic rightness of our world can renew our vitality and remind us to treat others with the respect due their humanity. In turn, others will respect our belief in them.

Sometimes, faith is betrayed; sometimes, we stumble. But the delusions or mistakes of others need not sour us; they are part of the mystery.

I will believe in my own capacity for goodness, and all will be well.

From the book "The Promise of a New Day" by Karen Casey and Martha Vanceburg

Yeah as long as it's not blind faith, as it is case for so many people...

Faith is believing what you can't see;)

Lechium

Yeah when all you see is a book you are told to follow and never to quiestion, it's called blind faith, and you're being brainwashed.

"You" was retorical, and did not imply you personaly. However it does if you take every single word in the Bible as an absolute truth.

JulieCitySlicker
04-21-2003, 07:37 PM
and that is your opinion

Lechium

When you take certain set of ideas created by someone lese, and adopt it as the only truth, you are being a mindless follower and you are being brainwashed. That's sorta the defenition of these terms.

Leech, we could say the exact same thing about you. Seems like you're brainwashed AGAINST God and religion and the Bible.

That's what seperates us.

Yeah, what Julie said. (There he goes again, thinking for us!)

Leech, seems to us that you DON'T accept the possibility God exists. Which is it?

Lechium

I accept possibility taht God exists. But I dont take is as an unshakable, one and only truth. It's a possibility, nothing more. And if God does exist he can be much different from the one Bible describes. Everything's possible. That's why I always say that you gotta be openmined.
I just have problem when people say taht ONLY way to happiness after death is though Jesus. It CAN be ONE of the ways. Nothing more.

Like I said in another threadm you seem that you want to search your whole life trying to find whatever religion that you feel like believing. You can go ahead and do all your looking Lech if you feel that is what you want to do with your life. I for one have found the one that fits in my life! I no longer need to search for it! So youcan count me out on looking any further and believing your rubbish beliefs. I am a christian and I'm proud of it! If you can't except that then whatever. Believe what you want. Whatever religion you finally come up with to be right in your eyes make sure you ask yourself if your god will die for you! I am no longer involved in this discussion with you as of now so Good Luck!

Blind faith's is confortable. It's your life and as long as you're happy it's cool. But since I know for sure that you are a closeminded person, your oppinions and things you say loose some value in my eyes, becuse you seem to have hard time thinking for yourself, rather accepting what others have to give you without questioning, as long as it feels alright.

P.S. Christisnas who question their belif instead of taking word of Bible as absolute truth, are different story.

Leech, if you wanna be "open minded" about it, fine. But stop preaching to us that we should be too!!!

I'm with Julie, I'm outta here.

But first, you don't know Julie at all. You don't know a thing about her "for sure", especially if she is close minded or not.

That is absolutely incredible. I find it extremely encouraging when I read things like that. I think you ARE being open minded. You have found something that you truly feel right about. The one thing I will warn you about is that you should never feel comfort with complacency. Always challenge yourself and question your beliefs. That way, you can grow in your beliefs. Good luck to you.

God has made Himself real to me. I don't see him literally, but I know of MANY things that prove God's existence...I will name them if you want me to...

oh yes, I know that but I know what comes from God. I admit, I am a bit of a Thomas, I have a hard time believing what I can't see, I do question. But God has made Himself known to me through many things....I have been filled with the Holy Spirit...I could go on and on bout this

By the way, wit things like the Dead Sea scrolls....does that kind of thing make u start to believe any?
