Scott Stapp Stapp Says Allegations are Lies
Posted on 07-16-2003 at 09:52 PM

Creed singer Scott Stapp has finally offered his thoughts on a lawsuit filed by four fans that claim the band performed poorly during a December 29 concert at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. After several months of silence the singer responded to a story about the lawsuit that appeared in the Orlando Sentinel on July 13th. After reading the story, Stapp left two lengthy voicemails at the newspaper's offices.
The July 13th story said that fans filed a suit charging that Stapp was, quote, "so intoxicated and/or medicated that he was unable to sing the lyrics of a single Creed song." The story explained how the fans are seeking parking and ticket reimbursement, and they also want to make it a class action suit. Potential damages from the suit could come close to $ 2 million.

In the past, Creed has given repeat performances when band members thought a performance was poor, but Stapp maintains the Chicago show was not one of those instances. "If these allegations were true, the band would, of course feel that the fans deserved a free show. These allegations are a lie. They're false."

Stapp continued, "Ever since we've gotten successful, we've been under a constant barrage of people attacking me -- attacking my character, and some things are just made up."
