I Have the Need! The Need for Creed!

I arrived at the Junkyard on Friday night looking forward to the night's music. In my usual zealous fashion, I start a conversation with the warm-up band thinking that they were the headlining act. Nope. Then it gets around that I'm here to see Creed, and I'm approached by a guy who introduces himself as the bassist for Creed, Brian. We rap and I begin by telling him that I became familiar with their music through a tip from Hanna-the-Beautiful at East West Records (CD's And Tapes, whatever!). She knows my tastes in music and told me Creed could be the next big thing.

Naturally, I gave it a listen. And if you like Alice n' Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, or Old Pearl Jam, Creed will hit a groove nerve that will keep you swaying like a Tibetan Monk! "Creed - My Own Prison," their CD of all original music is 'the bomb' and valuable to your music collection.

Brian soon pulls off the Boy Scout duty of all time as an entourage of grandmothers enters the building, and he proceeds to seat some of them. Later, I found out that they were family of a member of Creed and had come to see the show. We then rapped about their recent gig in Manhattan where they played the top-slot for a show in front of Atlantic Records' executives. I asked if they were signed and I got "things are negotiating back and forth," but apparently it hasn't happened yet. I also spoke with the lead singer who was convinced things were moving along well with the advent of a small tour in the works. Then the nice guys who hail from Tallahassee took to the stage and they turned the Junkyard into what all parents fear: a musical rumpus room.

They opened with a song entitled "Sister", and they were off, ranting and raving about the ills and the cures of a new generation. They then quoted a ballad only to flail and crank out the song "Unforgiven" (probably my favorite tune from the CD, just slammin'). It was a core evening with a spawning band that has greatness blaring from every speaker. See them the next time they come down to visit from Tallahassee and speak the words of the Creed.
