Well, I was only a little kid when MNF started, but I guess they did it to showcase the sport, back when baseball was really more of the national pasttime. It sort of has become a tradition now. Also, there are more teams now and toward the end of the season, there are even some games scheduled on Saturdays. It used to strictly be a Sunday thing.
