The Red Sox have already taken the first two games of the series against the Yankees. I think the Angels, Red Sox, Cubs, and Phillies are the teams that will compete for the World Series title.

I'm glad Boston's beaten 'em in the first 2... but it's still a long season
I hope the Cubs fuck up royally (naturally, b/c I'm a Cards' fan). In the NL, I'd say, at this point, Florida and Houston are the most likely contenders (the Cubs are just average without Mark Prior right now). Philly has a good team, but they've almost started off too slow. Looks like the Cards might be able to pack enough firepower each game to overcome their relatively weak pitching staff (relative to the Chubs and 'stros, that is). Let's hope MattyMo, Woody, and Co. come through this year!

The Cubs (NL Central winners) are great with or without Prior. They still have a great rotation and awesome hitting lineup. The Cards have really weak pitching. Jason Isringhausen is off to a slow start. I doubt the Cards will make the playoffs. The Phillies (NL East winners) are starting to hit now. Expect them to have a winning streak. Florida are off to a fast start, but they still have weak hitting. They need Pudge! Their starting pitching is all right. Hopefully they can get A.J. Burnett quickly. The Astros look good (NL Wildcard winners), but I am kind of worried about Octavio Dotel.

no, i think only Cards and Yanks have "awesome hitting lineups".
Cardinals: Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen, and Jim Edmonds as your 3-4-5 hitters (that there's potential for over 100 HRs, and easily surpassing 250, even 300 RBIs). We've also got Tony Womack who's a helluva lot better leadoff man and Reggie Sanders who can hit for power, not to mention fan favorite Ray Lankford. And Mike Matheny has improved significantly over the past couple of years.
As for the Yankees, it would be terribly disappointing (for them) if they were to miss the playoffs. Shouldn't lose with this line-up:
A-Rod, arguably the best player in baseball, probably the most athletic (he was a 40-40 man in '98); Derek Jeter, who's decent himself; Jason Giambi, Gary Sheffield, and Hideki Matsui who can crush the ball; Kenny Lofton, who's got mad wheels; and Bernie Williams, who is mad hardcore. Jorge Posada has been hitting hella good so far. That leaves Enrique Wilson as the team's weakest link, and he's aight. Fortunately, they've not been hitting well as a team so far. If they were to, they wouldn't need good pitching.

ah, forgot to mention the Chubs: Sosa strikes out too much and isn't as much of a threat without the cork (or the 'roids, for that matter). Outside of him and Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez, the offense packs nowhere near the amount of punch the Cards or the Yanks do. And the rotation IS only average without Prior. Last time I checked, they were 6-5, in 3rd place in the Central. Wood and Zambrano have been good so far (Wood got a bad game today, w/ the home plate ump blowing those calls w/ Adam Dunn). Chubs fans better hope that Mr. Prior is back soon so they don't have to rely on Sergio Mitre much longer.
