for me, there's 2 main problem areas: younger teens (and pre-teens, unfortunately) who do it just for shits & grins without understanding the consequences or its purpose (i.e. love). the latter of those can extend into the age group of older teenagers and young adults. IMO, sex should not be recreational, but should be reserved for sharing w/ someone whom you truly love.

this may sound bad, but teaching abstinence in schools is like playing music for the deaf.
either kids will already be planning on doing it because of their parents or upbringing, or they will be planning on having sex. teaching kids about safe sex, letting them know how to carry condems, testing, and stressing abstinence seems the best way to go, but thats just my opinion.
a person's values on sex and love arent something that justs pops in their head in high school, its something that is nurtured over time.

some statistics-
average life partners in america - 6
average age to start having sex - 15 (14 for boys?)
i had health last tri, so i dont realy remember for absolute fact, but its something like that.

something a little ironic about the average person having 6 "life" partners during their lifetime. i think there are two views of sex that are VERY wrong. the first one is a common one in the catholic and other churches in that its purely for spreading genes and is not to be done for other reasons and birth control is a big no no. the other equally wrong view is that its just a human desire like sleeping and eating....you eat you have food...you are horny you find someone to sleep with. the right view is in the middle somewhere.........

Ah yes,and because people like to do it so much, that is the reason why there are so many un wanted children in the world with parents that didn't want them. Not trying to be mean or anything, just stating a major problem in the world today

I am a realist, and as such that does not make me less of a moral person than
someone who disagrees with me. That said...SEX is a natural function, we have hormones that drive us to do it. Acting like it doesn't happen or that it is wrong...is WRONG. I also feel it is sad when I see young girls impregnated or young people are doing things that endanger their health and that is why safe sex needs to be taught in schools...it's going to happen. We are not enabling our children to have sex we are helping to protect them.
It's not teaching your child that these urges they have are wrong and so they are wrong it's about teaching them self-respect and love so they make the decisions that are right for them. That they should only engage in these activities safely and with open-eyes. What I mean is don't sleep with someone because you think they will love you, if you do it and when you do it, DO IT FOR YOURSELF!!! Do it because you truly want to for whatever reason.
If sex is so wrong outside of marriage, why were we given free will and urges that make us want to do it???
