Killing Time
Killing Time
Black as coal, creeping shadow its role
Pays no mind to the march of time
Silent stone-cold, it slowly takes hold
Secretly consuming, unsuspecting looming
Has it made, dues he surely paid
Bites him hard, lets down his guard
Doorbell rings, ignores the sting
Bill comes due, misses that other shoe
Fathers mothers, sisters and brothers
Same old song plays to all the others
Newfound appreciation, new friend desperation
Forced smile on the outside, rotting on the inside
Hope an illusion, clinging to delusion
Inevitable to follow, promises so hollow
All options tried, fate will not be denied
Breath it steals with the sword it wields
Knows no names, blade cuts just the same
Saps the will, the spirit it kills
Fathers mothers, friends and brothers
Same old song plays to all the others
