Rooney looked pretty good for a good portion of the first 45', but he just ran out of steam in the 2nd half... still, pretty decent for a guy who hasn't started in at least a month

You're referring to their draw with Holland I presume. Both sides had qualified for the knock-out phase of the tournament so you can't regard the form of this match. With this World Cup being so closely contested, only a few performances have stood out - Argentina (vs Serbia and Montenegro) and Spain (vs Ukraine).

I've just seen the highlights of Brazil vs Japan. Well done to Ronaldo on breaking the record - unfortunately he seems to be hitting form at the right time. I think Ghana will cause you problems at the back - they're a quick and very strong side.

Sad to see the USA go out, RMadd. I think they're approach in the first game was always going to make it difficult thereafter. They looked quite solid against Italy but you have to have a bit of luck when you're drawn in 'The Group of Death'.

Rooney's a very special talent - there's no one quite like him. I just hope there's no reaction to his pre-tournament injury. We've just lost Owen. He's injured both the medial and cruciate ligaments of his left knee and will be out for several months. Now we're left with a semi-fit striker, a 17 year old who's never played a Premiership match and.....Crouch (who's actually done well) in attack. Ecuador could cause us a few problems but we should win - there will be some serious questions asked if we don't progress.....VERY serious!

Checkout this goal from Rooney for Man U.

That was one hell of a game though. Sad to see Mexico leave, but one hell of a game.

Re: World Cup 2006

I'm not very optimistic about our chances on Saturday. This is quite unlike me!!

Portugal are without Deco and Costinha (both red carded against Holland) and maybe Cristiano Ronaldo through injury. All of them are incredibly influential.

Even with them missing...I...I don't know - it's too close to call. I'd be more confident if we were playing better.

It's funny you should comment about Beckham, Ana. He's been heavily criticised by our media for his performances. I don't agree with them. His free-kick led to the own-goal against Paraguay. He crossed for Crouch to score our first against T&T and scored our winner against Ecuador - what more can he do?

We got this far without playing well (a good thing?) and where there is Rooney, there is hope. He played a blinder against Ecuador - 93 minutes and only about 80% fit. He is superhuman!!

Fingers crossed.

Re: World Cup 2006

Dammit!! Penalties again!! We've now gone out on penalties in Italia '90, Euro '96, France '98, Euro 2004 and now Germany '06!!

I can't believe Cristiano Ronaldo assisted in getting Rooney sent off - his own Manchester United teammate. His 'wink' after Rooney got sent off made my blood boil - what a cheat. I hope Brazil or France destroy them in the semis.

Hargreaves was fantastic - one of the best individual performances of the tournament. The whole team were amazing in the second half. We played for an hour with ten men and without our captain - that's why we wear the three lions!

Sven was caught out tactically again - his luck ran out.

I stand by my avatar and signature :D !! I will remove it after the World Cup.

Great to see the Argies go out on penalties. To see them moaning and crying at the end...
