The Classroom/Help Thread

Ok the reason I made this thread and why I made it sticky is because we all need help every now and then. Im not talking about psychological advise, crazy freaks, I am talking about other kind of help. There are people here from different trades so its very likely that someone might be able to answer your question.

If anyone has any questions regarding anything related to computers or the internet in general just post it here.

If anyone has any question regarding school work or anything of that nature just posty it here.

This seemed like a good idea to me, if it flops ill remove it.

DONT spam! If this flops because someone started going off topic (X, Dan im looking in your direct) ill take it down and your ass is going bye-bye. Comprende, amigo?

Well, lets go.

i`m doing a report in my Gov. Class....

know anything about Henry Clay ??

bgivens33 02-20-2004 06:53 PM

Henry Clay... lol... the biggest loser in American Politics. Ran for president 3(maybe 4) times and lost them all. Ran against J.Q.Adams for the 6th presidency but then withdrew and gave Adams his full support. Adams then turned around and made him Secretary of State... which Jackson supporters claimed a corrupt bargain. This was significant because in the previous 5 elections, the secretary of state went on to become president. Alas, it didn't help Clay who went on to get slaughtered by Jackson in the next election. He went on to barely loose the presidency in '44(I think to Polk) because he wouldn't back the annexation of Texas... and that cost him the vote in the south. Kinda an interesting guy... wish he would have beaten Jackson... country might have turned out a bit better financially and socially.

So my internet is suddenly running really slow. I have dial up so it's slow enough to begin with. Is it because my little brother looks at porn all the time?

Mulletman 03-04-2004 10:24 PM

yes. most porn sites, and regular sites in general, will download spyware inot your PC. Spyware isnt what most people think. they dont take private info and use it to hurt you. they monitor the types of sites you go to and use that to pop up certian types of ads.

here are some crutial and FREE things taht ALL people should have runing on thier computers.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Anti Virus Software

Zone AlarmFree Firewall Protections

Ad Aware Free Spyware Removal

Spybot Search and Destroy Free Spyware Removal

i am willing to bet that if you get one of these spyware removal programs, run it and delete all the crap it finds, it will speed up your PC significantly.

Aimee 03-05-2004 12:21 PM

ok. I have spybot..it doens't find anything. I have norton...does it run ok with these other programs? And should I have all three on my computer or just choose one?

if you already have em, then you dont really need them.

souldancer 03-06-2004 10:01 PM

Mullet...so teacher-esque for you to do this! How cool! Good for you and your cyber-students. I had a great time with my students last week in literature..they were reading about REv. War and Bill of Rights..all those inspiring writers...Patrick Henry and Voltaire. I just love those free thinkers, the rebels, and ones like Emerson that make you feel and question! Oh, I miss being a student! :( I know it's tough and a lot of work when you are there..but enjoy what you can out of it!

RMadd 03-06-2004 11:08 PM

I've got Ad-Aware 6.0, and it's absofuckinglutely wonderful!

Mulletman 03-06-2004 11:36 PM

Enjoy it while im there? Hah! Girls, parties, football, bonfires, school pride festivities, the occasional politician, did i mention the sex already? Yea i dont think ill be leaving college anytime soon! Have you seen Van Wilder? That'll be me, the 7 year plan.

Norton is good one as long as you keep it updated regularly, but you might wanna go to norton's webpage which is http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ , then follow the link says "chek for security risks" and follow the instructions. it should work... take care

Mulletman 03-07-2004 04:11 PM

Yes Norton is good and so is McAfee. I use McAfee on my machines.... then again I paid over 50 bucks for this program. AVG does the EXACT same thing Norton and McAfee do, only without the fancy GUI (graphical user interface) and without the hefty price tag.

Ad-Aware is the shit, don't waste your time w/ SpyBot, shit don't work as well. Also, HiJack this is pretty good.

RMadd 03-15-2004 03:18 PM

yeah... i deleted SpyBot after one use... me like Ad-Aware, works good for me, so who needs change?

Steve 03-15-2004 03:45 PM

Trust me, SpyBot is much better than Ad-Aware. SpyBot picks up much more spyware than Ad-Aware too.

Mulletman 03-16-2004 11:01 AM

Ive had problems with Ad-Aware and Spybot. They both crash after searching 13 files. So I use the spyware protector that came with my AOL software.

Aimee 03-23-2004 01:14 PM

Hey Al,
Thanks a bunch! I put Ad-Aware on and it has helped tremendously! You're the BOMB! Even if you don't like The Cure

Creed_Defaultgirl 04-28-2004 08:24 PM

Any one know of any really REALLY informational sites on the holocaust????? I have to work on a book kinda like thing at school. We have to have 10 paragraphs about concentration camps, 11 on people from holocaust, and we (me and my partner) already have 7 people, then I think the rest of it will come pretty smooth. I just mainly need some really good sites on concentration camps, since we haven't done anything on those yet, if anyone knows of any good sites, please post them. Thanks! :)

RMadd 04-28-2004 08:42 PM

I don't know of any sites, but there's 2 people I can think of who've written books based on their experiences living in Nazi Germany (both are Jewish, so they experience concentration camps), so they might be helpful. Corrie Ten Boom (I think that's how her name is spelled) and Elie Wiesel (he wrote the book Night... it's a fairly quick read if you're interested, not much more than 120 pages, if my memory serves me correctly)

Mulletman 04-28-2004 09:46 PM

what you first need to do is find all the concentration camps, then search information on them individually. So just Google it. If you need more information just take a visit to your local Holocaust Museum.

Creed_Defaultgirl 04-29-2004 08:06 PM

Alright, thanks guys. If I get to go to the library anytime next week, I might see if they have those books. Three of our sources have to come from books anyway! :) I'll do that Mullet, thanks again guys.
