Who has everyone been impressed with so far in the World Cup? I have to say Spain and Argentina.

Ana, what are people saying about Ronaldo in Brazil? He can't keep playing like that and expect to stay in the side. Adriano too. Leonardo has been working for the BBC. Now, I'm a secure heterosexual male but Leonardo....he's a handsome bugger!!

I hope England play Germany in the second round (you all know why :D ). It would give us great pleasure to knock them out of 'their' World Cup. Then onto Argentina (again, you all know why :D ). Brazil next (revenge for '02) and we're in the final!! Wishful thinking!

Who's been the surprise package do far?

Humm... Argentina???? Okay..but who Argentina won with lots of goals? Servia Montenegro? I think they are too much confident...well lets see...

Spain...they really impressed me...

About Ronaldo??? People in general are saying that he has some BIG problem...he didnt play well (well a little bit better in this last match....) and everybody is saying he is fat, slow, tired....and as consequence we want Robinho instead of Ronaldo!!!!!!!...Brazil's squad always plays better when Robinho plays...its clear!!!!!!! Hope Parreira (coach) pay attention to this...;)

Hey we also want to play against Argentina (they are mocking alot about Ronaldo) and you know Brazilians HATE Argentinian :mad1:
and Engalnd... cuz this way Ronaldinho can re-affirm his talent ...

Leonardo???? Wow..yeah..you right he is handsome lol...even though I dont remember seeing his recent pics (do u have any? lol) but Kaka (8) is actually the favorite of brazilian girls...lol :D

I don't make a habit of collecting pictures of Brazillian footballers (or any male sportsman)!! :D

Argentina may have only beat S & M but the goal where they scored after 24 passes was amazing. As an Englishman I can only dream of us retaining possesion like that.

The Argies are the worst offenders when it comes to cheating/diving. The problem is they're so good at it. Remember the 'hand of god' in 1986? :mad1:

I hope they have peaked too early!

Rooney looked pretty good for a good portion of the first 45', but he just ran out of steam in the 2nd half... still, pretty decent for a guy who hasn't started in at least a month

You're referring to their draw with Holland I presume. Both sides had qualified for the knock-out phase of the tournament so you can't regard the form of this match. With this World Cup being so closely contested, only a few performances have stood out - Argentina (vs Serbia and Montenegro) and Spain (vs Ukraine).

I've just seen the highlights of Brazil vs Japan. Well done to Ronaldo on breaking the record - unfortunately he seems to be hitting form at the right time. I think Ghana will cause you problems at the back - they're a quick and very strong side.

Sad to see the USA go out, RMadd. I think they're approach in the first game was always going to make it difficult thereafter. They looked quite solid against Italy but you have to have a bit of luck when you're drawn in 'The Group of Death'.

Rooney's a very special talent - there's no one quite like him. I just hope there's no reaction to his pre-tournament injury. We've just lost Owen. He's injured both the medial and cruciate ligaments of his left knee and will be out for several months. Now we're left with a semi-fit striker, a 17 year old who's never played a Premiership match and.....Crouch (who's actually done well) in attack. Ecuador could cause us a few problems but we should win - there will be some serious questions asked if we don't progress.....VERY serious!

Checkout this goal from Rooney for Man U.

Re: World Cup 2006

I'm not very optimistic about our chances on Saturday. This is quite unlike me!!

Portugal are without Deco and Costinha (both red carded against Holland) and maybe Cristiano Ronaldo through injury. All of them are incredibly influential.

Even with them missing...I...I don't know - it's too close to call. I'd be more confident if we were playing better.

It's funny you should comment about Beckham, Ana. He's been heavily criticised by our media for his performances. I don't agree with them. His free-kick led to the own-goal against Paraguay. He crossed for Crouch to score our first against T&T and scored our winner against Ecuador - what more can he do?

We got this far without playing well (a good thing?) and where there is Rooney, there is hope. He played a blinder against Ecuador - 93 minutes and only about 80% fit. He is superhuman!!

Fingers crossed.

Re: World Cup 2006

Dammit!! Penalties again!! We've now gone out on penalties in Italia '90, Euro '96, France '98, Euro 2004 and now Germany '06!!

I can't believe Cristiano Ronaldo assisted in getting Rooney sent off - his own Manchester United teammate. His 'wink' after Rooney got sent off made my blood boil - what a cheat. I hope Brazil or France destroy them in the semis.

Hargreaves was fantastic - one of the best individual performances of the tournament. The whole team were amazing in the second half. We played for an hour with ten men and without our captain - that's why we wear the three lions!

Sven was caught out tactically again - his luck ran out.

I stand by my avatar and signature :D !! I will remove it after the World Cup.

Great to see the Argies go out on penalties. To see them moaning and crying at the end...

^^After Cristiano Ronaldo's actions I don't want to see Portugal win - lucky bastards!! Although they're an attractive betting proposition at 6-1 - the outsiders of the remaining four teams.

I hope Germany win. I honestly can't believe I'm saying that...:wtf:

oh..italy won...great...i could manage to watch only 1st 20 minutes .....Zidane panelty hit was a lucky one.....though a good technique ..but damn lucky...i am sure he would have a good reward on his head if that panelty hit did'nt made the way it did after hitting the goal post......so ITALY won....good!

What was he thinking? - I believe it was something along the lines of ( "Have it!" )

I'm glad italy won. - After five minutes of watching I made my mind up that I didn't want to the french to win because....well, they're french!

Re: World Cup 2006

I watched the entire final, although I did doze off for about 15 minutes late in the first half. It's unfortunate France lost, because they were the better team for most of the match (certainly for the final minutes of regulation, and most of overtime). It certainly would've been surprising for them to win in PKs, given that Buffon was far better than Barthez (although Trezeguet's ringer off the crossbar was the only thing that prevented them from a 5th try). Oh well. Perhaps in South Africa the US won't suck so much.
It's interesting to note that, of the 14 European teams in the tourney, 10 made it through to the knockout stage. The next round, of the 8 remaining teams, 6 were from Europe; and the "Final Four" were all European. A little home-continent advantage, perhaps?
