Is Big Dismal Over or Not?

I've heard some rumors that they broken up and Eric was going solo, but in their site there was a message by Eric Durrance talking about the Katrina and a new Big Dismal album...someone can clarify it?

JulieCitySlicker 09-05-2005 06:49 PM

I have no clue! This is news to me :dunno: Sorry I'm no help.

I'm pretty sure that they have broken up and that Eric is doing a solo project which will be on Wind-up. The domain name, www.ericdurrance.com, is currently owned by Wind-up:

But he say in the message that he and Chuck are writing new lyrics...and this message is very recent because he talks about the hurricane too. Eric says that he write a song about it...

Maybe they are not breaking up, and Eric is just doing a solo project.

As some of you may know, I'm brazilian and I discovered their sound in the early days. I like It very much. I hope they're still togheter. There are someone who likes Big Dismal too in these boards?

I like them. I have one album. I haven't listened to it in a while, though. I'm pretty sure hotforscott likes them, too. In fact, I think she's the one who gave me that album.

Yes, I do like them, but I haven't listened to them much recently. Probably a couple of years. JenRN is the one who turned me onto them. I bought the Big Dismal CD and the Revis CD at the same time, and I just took more of a liking to Revis, but Big Dismal had a song called "Just the same" that I really liked. :D

I like them as well :) and was sad to hear that they broke up.

I'm 99.9% certain that they did break up. I was a member of their official message board last November, when someone on there posted a message asking whether or not Big Dismal broke up. Well, the band members(Eric, Chuck and I think another guy) posted on there that they had, in fact, broken up. Unfortunately, later in that same thread, a message board member posted a less than flattering message about Chuck. Later on that same day, the board was permanently shut down. The stupid thing was, Wind-Up NEVER posted that the band had broken up; they haven't updated the site in nearly a year. Because of WU not saying too much, very few places reported the break-up. A couple of Christian sites did, though. http://www.ccmbuzz.com/modules.php?n...rticle&sid=924 that's a link to one of the sites that reported the story.

As for the message, I believe that was recorded(or posted) last year. Eric did write a song called "Hold On" for victims of the Hurricane.....but not Katrina. He wrote it about the Hurricanes that devestated Florida last year. At the time that message was posted, Big D was working on a new CD, but since they've broken up, that second CD won't see the light of day. It's a shame, because I loved the debut CD.

As for what the members are doing now, I have no idea what Chuck and the other guys are doing. But I do know that Eric is hard at work on a solo CD, though I am not sure when that'll be released. He's still a WU artist. He has a myspace.com profile(I can't recall the url, though) and has posted some full songs on there for people to preview. He actually posted "Hold On" earlier this year, and I was able to download the full version of the song.

It's really unfortunate that a band with so much potential had to break up after just one CD. Hopefully the band members all achieve success in their future projects.

Hope this helps.

Helps a lot. I think Eric was talking about Katrina when he mentioned a hurricane...so sad. But I hope he come back soon with his solo stuff. I love the first album.

Thanks again and...

Peace.

Ops...sorry for my bad english. I though...thats the correct form (I think).

RMadd 09-12-2005 06:27 PM

my favorite song from their cd was "missing you" w/ amy lee... other than that, don't really listen to 'em

I should update my post. There are rumors circulating that Big Dismal might be back. There are two reasons for the rumors: a flyer was recently put on Durrance's myspace.com profile that advertises a Big Dismal concert in November. It shows Durrance and 3 other guys. Because I did not know the rest of the band all that well, I do not know if those 3 other guys are the former Big D members or not. Also, on bigdismal.com, Wind-Up has updated the news section to say "stay tuned for more news". So, this has added some fuel to the fire and has led to some speculation among Big Dismal fans that the band might be reforming, that the break-up was only a year long hiatus. No one knows for sure. Hopefully Eric sheads some light on this in his myspace blog.

*Edit* I just compared that flyer to a picture of the band on bigdismal.com and it appears to be the same guys. Very interesting stuff.
