I always give my husband a hard time whether Notre Dame wins or loses. Last week when they beat the pants off Rutgers when all the other college fans from around the country were setting things on fire and rolling over cars I told him I'd better see my car sitting upright in the driveway the next morning. Football fans are nuts.

we have 63 Barney tapes and i am sooooooo tired of barney.
he can go camping, go to school, the doctor, the dentist, whatever he wants if he just leaves me out of it. lol. btw, most of the tapes were gifts, at 10 bucks a pop, i onlybought about 5 of them. lol.
Dogstar
12-07-2002, 12:29 PM
Wow, I didn't know there were that many Barney tapes! You have my sympathies. I remember watching him a lot at my sister's when her boys were young. Ugh. I was more a Sesame Street fan myself.
hotforscott
12-07-2002, 12:32 PM
we have so many, there are some duplicates, and it's funny to see how much he has changed over the tapes. some of the first ones, he was dark purple and talked weird and baby bop and bj were the same height as barney, and now they are half his size and he is more pinkish. some of the tapes were made in 89, when he first came out so it's really weird to watch them and see how he's changed.
Dogstar
12-07-2002, 12:35 PM
Wow, the many lives of Barney. That's trippy that he's pink now. I wonder if that had anything to do with the all hoopla about the purple teletubby controversy.

i don't know, it's just he is more of a fuscia, dark pink kind of color, then purple.
can't stand the teletubbies. i had 2 of those tapes someone gave us, and they were quickly given to someone else. i mean, that one drove me nuts.
i really like Bear in the Big Blue House, he's pretty cool and doesn't drive me up the wall.
probably because we only have 1 of his tapes. lol

Y'all know I have to throw my 2 cents in. Barney was downright bizarre in the old days, his head was more square and he just scared me. The teletubbies are pure evil. They really don't teach kids anything except to speak like a baby. Sesame Street is great but I think my kids are beginning to get away from that in favor of Rugrats, Wild Thornberry's and Clifford. Which is fine with me as long as they don't want to watch the Butt Ugly Martians (yes that really is a show!)

That is a good song. I liked Mariah's old stuff, her recent songs I am not to fond of, but that song gets me in the Christmas spirit.

I remember, long ago, in a time and place far, far away, when I first heard Alice in Chains. The song, of course, was Man in the Box. I loved that song and knew that band had great potential. Why is it that the great artists die what seems to be before their time?
Jim Morrison
Janis Joplin
Jimmy Hendrix
Elvis Presley
Jim Croce
Kurt Cobaine
Michael Hutchence
Bob Marley
John Lennon
I'm sure you can add more. Do these early deaths elevate their aura? Just something to ponder.

Lately, I've been listening to something that, at first, rubbed me the wrong way. I'd been so accustomed to a particular sound from this group and, then, their sound changes so much. I'm talking about the Moody Blues. They had such a killer, far-out, progressive sound in their first 10 years. Then, in the 80s, they broke out with some hits. The last 12 years has seen 2 original albums and yearly touring. I grew to like "Keys to the Kingdom" (1990ish). Their latest effort ("Strange Times") brings some strange music for a band that defined strange music back in their time. At first, it seemed too soft and conservative. But, I can honestly say it has grown on me and I'm beginning to really like many of the tracks if not all of them to an extent. Funny how music can grow on you. One should strive to always have patience with music and not make hasty judgements. Same goes with people I imagine.
The Moody Blues; ever listen to them?

Yes, Alice definitely was done before their time, primarily because of Layne Staley's heroin addiction. They had three kick-a** full-length albums and two awesome EPs. They pretty much died after Unplugged and Staley barely hung on for another six years. It's really sad. I think it doesn't so much elevate their aura as much as make us think of what might have been. What would they have accomplished had they played out their days?
One other comes, to mind, but I can't remember his name. He was the frontman for Blind Melon. I love the song No Rain. That guy had a unique voice.

Wow, was THAT a blast from the past for me. I was really into them in the 70s and early 80s, but I lost track of them after that. I saw them twice in concert back then...Amazing performances. I haven't heard anything past the early 80s from them. I will have to give their new stuff a listen. I have yet to replace my vinyl MB with CDs. I'm slowly working my way toward doing that. I have a lot of vinyl and no turntable at the moment. Maybe I should just get a turntable. :D
Sorry for the double post.

I really like that band. Saw them live a couple of years ago (maybe it was last year). Anyways, they opened for Counting Crows. Why they opened beats the shizzit out of me. They easily outperformed the Crows. In any event, they rock. I've kept up with them ever since they came out in the early 90s. Don't particularly care for their latest, though. Perhaps I just need to give it more listenings. "The Distance to Here" was superb, however.
In any event, been listening to Yes, Awaken. Great tune!

I adore Live and have seen them twice. I also love their latest album and I have read a lot of reviews from fans that don't like it - I don't know why!! It is a little different to their earlier stuff but I couldn't expect a band to be putting out the same kind of music after ten years. People and bands evolve and change over time. I personally think they have gotten better and more experimental.

I love so many of the songs from Throwing Copper...Just a kick-a** record. I have another of their CDs, but its title escapes me at the moment. A friend gave it to me years ago because she didn't like it. It had more a mellow feel to it, but I like it nonetheless. I would love to see them live. I'll have to check out the new one.

I'm having a senior moment. Those other titles don't even register. DOH! When I get home, I'll look for the other CD and check the title. I'll have to check out whether they are touring as well. I don't know whether they're touring at the moment so much as just playing a few shows here and there. They have a show planned in March 2003 in Orlando, Florida (!) and there are a few postponed shows which have not yet been rescheduled.
I also heard that they are working on their sixth album which will probably be released in the first half of next year. Can't wait - that means another tour to Australia!! YAY!! :D
